RECAP

On December 3rd, thirty-one players gathered at the Century Snooker Club in New Glasgow to try their hand at earning the 2016 Provincial Open 8-Ball crown.  The field included several former Open Provincial Champions from various disciplines including defending Open 8-Ball champion Everette Paul, Colin Maloney, Dale Brimicombe, Brad Doyle, Bill MacPherson, Brian White, and New Glasgow’s own Bill Martin and Peter Thompson.

On one half of the winner’s side, Brad Doyle was staking his place in the A-side final, toppling Hugh MacEachern, Peter Thompson, Everette Paul, and Craig Teal.  Meanwhile, it was Ryan MacKenzie also making a big statement on the winner’s side, ousting Peter Borden, Leon Sylliboy, Bill Martin, and Colin Maloney, to book his spot alongside Doyle.   In the match to decide who would sit in the hot seat, it would be Doyle putting an end to MacKenzie’s run.

On the B-side, after an early round loss to Wek Augustine, Brian White was stringing together 7 straight victories, overcoming Chris Simmons, William Holmes, Bill Martin, Peter Thompson, Craig Teal, Colin Maloney, and Ryan MacKenzie to get a shot at Brad Doyle.

The final saw a few lead changes back and forth, eventually ending up with both players on the hill.  White took the deciding rack to earn his 2nd Provincial Open 8-Ball crown, and a paid spot to represent Nova Scotia at the Open 8-Ball Nationals in Quebec in May of 2017.

MacKenzie had arguably his best ever finish, placing 3rd, followed by Colin Maloney in 4th.  Everette Paul and Craig Teal shared 5th-6th place, and Peter Thompson and Bill MacPherson also cashed in 7th-8th spot.
