2023 CSNS Bank Pool Provincial Championships summary.
Fourteen dedicated players showed up to battle it out for the inaugural 2023 CSNS Bank Pool Championships. Everyone had fun, even though some players could have filled a swear jar by themselves or used an entire box of tissues. There were 3 hill-hill matches. One was a great comeback by Brian White against Brendan MacEachern after being down 3-0. Another one was won by Audrey Ozon against the always tough Wek Augustine. In my opinion, the most exciting one of the day was the match that Jon Kynock won against Mike Cullymore that came down to the very last ball(which they both had multiple close calls on).
For those who have never played Bank Pool there is much more safety and strategic play than one would think. Banking a ball is hard enough but the shot making difficulty is further increased when you need to add offensive or defensive position for the cue ball or even worse when you need to go multiple rails.
The races were shortened slightly to 4 on the a side and 3 on the b side. There were a few gruelling and intense battles but overall everything went smoothly. The final 2 players were myself and Wayne Thibodeau. Wayne had a bye and then scored wins over Wek Augustine, Mike Cullymore before taking a loss to myself. Undeterred, then he had a win over Jon Kynock to get back to the finals. My path to the finals consisted of wins over Audrey Ozon, Jason Ross, Brian White and Wayne Thibodeau. The finals were scheduled to be a true double knock out but I was fortunate to be able to win the first set and the title. Great shooting Wayne.
I donated a small prize for the most "5 and outs" of the day which was shared by myself(I gave myself $5 too) and to the amazing Cheryl Maloney! Nice work Cheryl.
A huge thank you to Cue Sports Nova Scotia for allowing me to run this event on their behalf to show case this great game. Special thanks to Dooly's Burnside, Jen Reid and all the staff there! Special shout out to Brian McNamara for running the stream, its much appreciated. Thanks to everyone who played especially to those who were not familiar with Bank Pool. I feel like there are a few more players who are hooked on this game which made it a successful event. If you practice this game it will definitely improve all of your games.
