Tournament Chart:
Sixteen strong and determined players showed up to battle it out for the inaugural 2023 CSNS One Pocket Championships. Everyone had fun, some players cried a little( because it's difficult lol) and there were some very exciting shots played. There were 9 hill-hill matches and a few of them came down to the last ball which made for a lot of stress for the players but excitement for the others who were watching. For those who have never played one pocket each match can be very different. Sometimes it is all offense and sometimes it's all defense. There is often extra difficulty when you have to switch from all defense and missing shots on purpose to stepping on the offensive gas pedal. For the races to 4 the shortest match was 45 minutes and the longest was 157 minutes. For the races the 3 the shortest match was 30 minutes and the longest was 147 minutes.
The final 2 players were myself and Mike Cullymore. Mike had wins over Brendan MacEachern, Jay Hanlon, Wayne Thibodeau, Jon Kynock, and Darrell Abolit. My path to the finals consisted of wins over Chris Penney, Wayne Thibodeau, Jon Kynock and Darrell Abolit. The finals were scheduled to be a true double knock out but I was fortunate to be able to win the first set and the title.
We had a small prize for the most "8 and outs" of the day which was won by Nok Mantolino, who had the only one! Check is in the mail.
A huge thank you to Cue Sports Nova Scotia for allowing me to run this event on their behalf to show case this great game. Special thanks to Dooly's Portland, Tracey Goodyear and the staff there! Thanks to everyone who played especially to those who were not familiar with One Pocket. Often, you can learn a great deal when you step outside your comfort zone and try something new.
