Tournament Bracket:

The heavy rain didn’t dampen the spirits of 42 men who converged on Dooly’s Port Hawkesbury this past weekend to play for the Provincial Open 8-Ball Championships and a spot to the 2026 nationals. A new name on the trophy would be the order of the day.

Andrew Simon went undefeated to the hot seat with a 7-5 win over 2012 champion Bruce Lilly in the A side final. Meanwhile, Wayne Thibodeau had been coming through the B side with big wins over Richard "Buddy" Young and Peter Doucette before Lilly eked out a 5-4 win against him to relegate Thibodeau to a very respectable third place finish. Lilly would have another crack at Simon in the final, which would be a one-set race to 9 affair. Lilly’s bid for a second title would come up short as Simon, who previously won the 2018 provincial 10-ball, squeaked out a 9-8 thriller and put himself two thirds of the way to the provincial triple crown, as well as securing a spot to next year’s nationals.

Men’s payouts:

1st $675 + national spot – Andrew Simon

2nd $485 – Bruce Lilly

3rd $360 – Wayne Thibodeau

4th $220 – Peter Doucette

5th/6th $195 – Richard Young, Chris Penney

7th/8th $145 – Brian White, Kyle Richard

Many thanks to Melanie Perks, Lindsay and the rest of the staff at Dooly’s Port Hawkesbury for hosting the event, and to the many hands of the tournament committee who kept the two days running smoothly as always.
