Brian White Dethrones Kyle Richard At 2026 CSNS Bank Pool Provincials

Twenty three players showed up to battle it out at the 2026 Bank Pool Provincial Championships.
The races were to 5 on the A side and 4 on the B side. Later in the evening we shortened the races to 3 on the B side in an effort to try to get the event finished in one day. We came up a little short and brought the final 3 players back to finish things up on Sunday.
There were 7 hill-hill matches and lots of very intense matches where it could have went either way. We also had quite a few 3 ball shoot outs due to time limits. The way that works is if the score is tied and the time has expired both players lag(lag winner decides who shoots first). Three balls are placed in line on the spot and the player shoots to open them up. Then the first player to makes 2 legally pocketed balls wins the match(nerve wracking for the players but great for spectators!).
For those who have never played Bank Pool there is more safety and strategic play than one would think. Sometimes you have absolutely no shot and then must place the cue ball where your opponent will have no high percentage shot(the rail is your friend). Sometimes you need to decide if you will go multiple rails because so many pockets are blocked or if you will pocket a ball to be re spotted. Figuring out your shot percentage including cue ball position and weighing that against what your opponent might have if you miss is another important skill.
The final 2 players left standing were myself and Brian White. Brian had wins over Fabian Francis, Bernie Terrio, Bafex Teemane and Mitch Tucker before taking a 5-2 loss to myself. On the B side he then scored a win over Darrell Abolit to get back to the finals. My path to the finals consisted of wins over Darrell Abolit, Mike Culleymore, Tracey Goodyear and Brian White.
The final match was one race to 6. The scoring seemed to go in waves after 1-1. Brian went up to 3-1 then I tied it back up at 3-3. Brian went up 5-3 and I fought back to tie it again at 5-5. The last game really had some "twists and turns"(really nice bank pool pun if I don't say so my myself, lol) but Brian came out on top 6-5. Great shooting Brian!
There was a $50 prize for the most "5 and outs" of the tournament which was won by Mitch Tucker with 2! Darrell Abolit also had one. Well done!
