Tournament Bracket:

The annual 2-point tournament was held today at Doolys Portland and the crowd didn't disappoint, with 95 players converging to vie for the title and a coveted spot to the CBSA 8-ball nationals later this year. Six previous champions were in attendance as well as some of the league's best players who were looking for their first win in this event. Lots of great matchups were had throughout the day but, as is usually the case, the cream rose to the top.

Brian White and Colin Maloney tore up the field to get to the A side finals, where White put a stamp of authority on his bid for a second championship with a convincing 3-0 win. Meanwhile, defending champ Guy Tremblay continued his march through the B side of the draw, whitewashing Mike Weagle 3-0 to limit him to a very respectable 4th place finish. This set up a terrific B side final with Maloney and Tremblay, with Guy edging Colin 3-2 to continue his bid to repeat as champion.

The final would be a true double knockout, where hotseat holder White would have to be beaten twice in the final. Tremblay proved too much on this day though, as he cruised to 3-0 win in the first set, then, after losing the first game of the penultimate match, dropped the hammer to secure the title with a 3-1 scoreline.

Many thanks are due to various folks, most especially Tracey Goodyear, Melissa Hart and the rest of the staff for hosting our event again this year. Doolys Portland continues to prove itself to be the premier local venue for hosting big tournaments. Thanks also to the Billiard Shop for their continued sponsorship and providing prizes for the players. And a special shout out to Craig Teal and Glenn Nickerson, you guys made today a smooth ride for the players with your seamless running of the drawsheet throughout the day, thank you from all of us!
