Century Snooker Club in New Glasgow welcomed 49 players on Saturday to the fifth of ten Predator ranking events. Playing 8-ball this time, the double knockout field was whittled down to the final 16, who then switched gears to a single knockout playdown format. The final four saw Keir Sylliboy get to his second straight semi-final appearance but was no match for Brian White as "Big Country" peeled off a 5-1 win to get to the final. Meanwhile, Jeff Saulnier eked out a 5-4 victory over Jody Swim in the other semi to set up a tantalizing penultimate match. But alas, it was not to be. A late night and icy road conditions saw the two finalists agree on a split of the cash and a one-game playoff for the win, which Saulnier pulled off in short order.
Ticket sales for the 10-ball break contest brought the pot to $605/ball. Bill MacPherson had his ticket drawn but a dry break saw him settle for the $135 consolation prize. The next 10-ball break will be at event 6 at Doolys Burnside where expected sales are likely to push the pot to over $700/ball once again.
Two more cue raffles were completed at the event. Kevin Shannon was the lucky winner of a Predator Aspire 1-7 cue, while tournament host Billy Martin locked down a Revo shaft. Congrats to you both!
Many thanks to our title sponsor Predator for supplying Arcos balls and racks for the event as well as Predator Arcadia cloth for the live stream tables; to Billy Martin and staff at Century for hosting our event; to Brian McNamara for his live-stream services; and to the many hands of the tournament committee who kept things running smoothly throughout the day.
