The first CSNS event on Cape Breton soil this season saw Dooly’s Port Hawkesbury host Predator Tour Ranking # 2 (8-Ball) this past weekend and players from all over came to test their mettle on the twelve newly felted Palason tables.

Action was fast and furious and two players – Jeremy Basque and Andrew Simon – each dropped only one game on their way to the final 16 redraw. Event # 1 winner Mitch Tucker once again bested Jody Swim, clocking a 5-2 win as he booked his place in the sweet 16, leaving Swim to have to win a match on the B-side to gain his own spot, which he did with a 4-1 win over Brian Bedford. Nova Scotia’s top female player Janet Ritcey and local contender Adam MacRae were also among the redraw participants.

In the redraw, Jeremy Basque continued his winning ways, squeaking out consecutive 5-4 victories over Chris Penney and Andrew Simon before booking his spot in the final by taking down Shane Crawford with a 5-1 score line. Swim meanwhile enjoyed comfortable wins over MacRae and Shaun Marshall but had to survive a spirited challenge from Mike Basque in the semi-finals where he eked out a 5-4 victory to face Jeremy in the final.

The penultimate match was all Jody as he whitewashed Jeremy 5-0 to claim his first ranking win of the season.

The 10-ball break contest saw ticket sales on the day bring the pot to $155/ball. Desiree Sylliboy got her name drawn and had Shaun Marshall break for her. Shaun made a ball but scratched and had to settle for the $60 consolation prize.

Many thanks to Melanie Perks and the staff at Dooly’s Port Hawkesbury for hosting the event; to Brian McNamara and Brian's Cuesport Streams for the live stream coverage throughout the day; and to the many hands of the tournament committee who kept the event running smoothly as always.
