The latest installment of the Predator CSNS 8/9-Ball Tour saw Doolys Burnside play host to 71 players shooting 8-Ball this time, and some familiar faces were once again mixed with a few up-and-comers at the end of the day. As usual, the event began with a double knockout bracket playing down to a final 16 single knockout redraw. The final four saw Jody Swim dispatch Wayne Thibodeau and Nok Mantolino get by Eric Bonneau by identical 5-3 score lines to set up a final between perennial favourite, Nok and the younger lad Jody, who has been going very deep in recent events. Jody finally "Nok'd" out all competitors, putting his name on the champion's list with a 5-3 win in the final.
An always popular feature of the tour events is the 10-ball break contest. Ticket sales on the day pushed the pot to $405/ball for Colin Maloney, who was the lucky winner to have his name drawn to try to capture a chunk of the growing pot. Colin made a ball on the break and had a pretty open table except for the one ball, which would require a diagonal table-length pot while awkwardly bridging over an intervening ball, no simple shot with over possibly four grand waiting if he could pull it off! Alas, he failed to negotiate the shot, fluking the one ball in the side pocket, but as 10-ball rules go, that one didn't count so he settled for $405 for making the single ball on the break. The next 10-ball break will be at ranking event #10 at Doolys Sydney where expected sales will push the pot once again to over $400/ball.
Ticket sales on a new cue raffle package - a Predator Aspire 1-8 and a 1-9, each valued at over $600 - were brisk and sold out quickly. Johnny Newman and Troy Richards were the lucky winners.
Many thanks to our title sponsor Predator for supplying Arcos balls and racks for the event; to Jess Grant and the staff at Doolys Burnside for hosting once again; to Brian McNamara for his always popular live-stream services; and to the many hands of the tournament committee who kept things running smoothly throughout the day.
