Tournament Bracket:
Doolys Sydney recently hosted the 2025 Provincial Amateur Men’s 9-Ball championships. With other major pool events going on around the Maritimes, it was great to see 42 men come out to compete for trophies, cash, and spots to the Amateur nationals being held later this year in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Defending champion Evan Paul was in the field, so the competition was tough from the get-go.
Local legend Wek Augustine survived an opening hill-hill battle with Kenneth Isaac, then proceeded to blow through the A side and finally eke out another 9-8 win over New Glasgow’s Bill Martin to get to the A side final. Adam Cormier was never severely tested as he breezed through five straight, including a 9-3 dumping of Shawn Fequet to meet Wek in the A final. That match proved tough for both players but Wek would claim the hot seat with a close 9-7 score line.
Meanwhile, John Newman had lost his third round match 9-4 to Chris Marsh, which only motivated him to snap off six straight victories on the B side, including only dropping three games in his last three matches, to set up a B side final versus Cormier. Another close match followed with Cormier succumbing 7-5, allowing Newman to challenge Wek for the title and spot. Once again, a long final ensued, but when the dust cleared it was Newman taking home the win by a score of 11-8.
As always, there are many thanks due: to Erin MacIsaac and the staff at Doolys Sydney for hosting our event; and to Wek Augustine and Ryan Kendall who helped immensely with manning the draw sheet throughout the weekend.
