The 2024 edition of the provincial Amateur 8-Ball championship is in the books and the turnout at Doolys Burnside in Dartmouth was fantastic. 66 men duked it out on the felt for cash, trophies and spots to the amateur nationals later this year (date and venue TBA at this time). Play ran through Saturday and srxaesse and ra and the other two wsaw 12 men returning on Sunday to complete the double knockout event.

The mens event was a display of talent for sure with so many players being of equal ability. The final undefeated four saw Ryan Kendall eke out a 5-4 victory over Darrell Abolit in one A-side semi-final, with Johnny Newman whitewashing perrenial favourite Mike Weagle 5-0 in the other. Newman then stamped out any trace of doubt about who would be in the final with a 5-0 drubbing of Kendall to claim the hot seat.

Meanwhile, Mitch Tucker was the heartbreak kid on the B side of the draw, surviving three straight hill-hill battles before bowing out in the fourth one to Weagle, ending with a very respectable 4th place finish. Weagle, with his rapid-fire, Luc Salvas-like style of play, then relegated Kendall to a 3rd place finish, setting up a rematch with Newman for the title.

Newman, who had only lost six games en route to the final, could only watch as Weagle snapped off the first game in the one set, race to 7 but quickly hit back, winning the next five to jump out to a 5-1 lead. Weagle tried to stop the bleeding but splitting the next two games left Newman on the hill at 6-2. Weagle picked up the next game but Newman was not to be denied as he closed out the set with a 7-3 victory.

The latest CSNS cue raffle saw all tickets sold and a draw completed for a Predator Aspire 1-7 cue plus a Predator 3x5 case, a package worth over $900. Riley MacDonald was the lucky winner - congrats, Riley!

Special thanks to management and staff at Doolys Burnside for hosting and ensuring the players had a great experience; to Brian McNamara for live streaming the event; to Kyle Richard, Darrell Abolit, Ryan Kendall, Craig Teal and Paul Gunn who all chipped in helping with organizing, ticket sales and running the draw sheets - you guys helped make things run smooth, thank you!
