A total of 18 women made their way to Dooly’s Portland to chase titles and national spots in this year’s Amateur 9-Ball provincial championships. It was clear from the start that the players were excited to compete with their peers and action was hot and heavy all weekend long.
The women’s division also saw some great play by all but the two players in the final were no strangers to being in that position. Kathy Brock had won the women’s Open in 2019 and was runner-up in the amateur in the same year. Audrey Ozon completed the “Audrey-Slam” of amateur play last year, holding titles in all three disciplines of 8-9-10 ball and looking to add another. Kathy survived a hill-hill thriller in her first match with Tracey Goodyear, then ran through the field undefeated to claim the hot seat after a 6-3 win over Monette McCue in the A side final. Audrey’s road was much different as she lost her first match 6-3 to Angie Kilbride but then dropped only eight games as she rattled off seven straight wins to get to the final. In the penultimate match, Kathy jumped out to 3-1 ahead, and with players trading the next six games, still held onto a slim 5-4 lead before winning the next two games to close out the match with a 7-4 score line, making a beauty 9-ball down the long rail to seal the deal.
Women’s Payouts:
1st - $265 + national spot - Kathy Brock
2nd - $200 Audrey Ozon
3rd - $130 Monette McCue
4th - $65 Julie Gibson
