Thirty players moseyed on down to Dooly Portland recently for the annual Straight Pool Provincials. With the previous three winners in the field and loads of top talent to challenge for the title, the day provided a couple of early exits to the B side for some top challengers.

In the second round alone, Chris Penney squeaked by Kyle Richard 100-97 and Brian White got by Wayne Thibodeau 100-91. Neither would make it to the A side final though, as those honours would go to Jody Swim and Nok Mantolino where Jody would oust Nok 100-80 to claim the hot seat.

Meanwhile on the other side of the draw, Kyle Richard was on a mission. After utterly dominating Brian McNamara 75-6 in his first B side match, he went on a five-match win streak on his way to the semi-final match with Nok. A tight affair ensued but Kyle managed a 75-67 win to get to the final and relegate Nok to a very respectable third place finish. Nok also claimed the $50 high run prize with a run of 42 in his first-round match against Craig Teal.

The winner of the final would see a new name etched on the trophy. Kyle managed to stay ahead most of the match and closed out the final 125-81 to complete the comeback and claim the straight pool title.

Thanks to Jen Reid and the staff at Dooly's Portland for hosting our event this year; to Brian McNamara and Brian's Cuesport Streams for a great weekend of coverage; and a shout out to Bruce Lilly and others who came out to help with managing the event.
