Colin Maloney is your 2020 CSNS Open 10-Ball Champion, having defeated Bruce Wane Abadilla in the final 11-10. The tide-turning moment almost came with both players locked at 9 games apiece. Maloney got out to the 10-Ball, but having cut the game ball successfully along the short rail, the cue ball slowly travelled the length of the table to scratch in the corner pocket, to put Abadilla on the hill rather than Maloney himself. However, Maloney got the better of a safety battle in the 20th game to square the score again, and then broke and ran on the hill to seal his 2nd Open 10-Ball Provincial title.
Abadilla, in his first Open Provincial final, took the A-Side route, downing Christian Coffey, Alton Robinson, Justin D’Eon, Bill Martin, Rocky Johnson, and Rick Leon. Maloney initially cruised along without a blemish to his record, defeating Jason Ross, Jeff Saulnier, and Chris Penney, before taking a detour to the loss side courtesy of Rick Leon. Maloney then posted victories over Nok Mantolino, Rocky Johnson, and besting Leon in a rematch to reach the final.
Last year’s champion Rick Leon finished 3rd, having lost tight heart-breaking matches in both the A and B side finals to Abadilla and Maloney respectively. Rocky Johnson emerged in 4th place. Richard Young and Nok Mantolino placed 5th-6th. Jeremy Basque and Justin D'Eon both produced solid finishes in a tough field, each earning 7th-8th place. The event was played at Dooly’s Portland over Jan 25-26 weekend with 45 players in the Open Division. Maloney has earned the right to represent CSNS at the 2020 CBSA 10-Ball Nationals to be held later this year. Thanks to our sponsors Coldstream Clear Distillery and Dooly’s.
