Doolys Port Hawkesbury played host to stop 3 of the CSNS Predator Tour this past weekend. 57 players entered the double knockout 8-ball event and the action was hot and heavy to get to the final 16 redraw.
The final saw two players from Cape Breton who know each other well duking it out for the title. Carl Sampson raced out to early 3-0 and 5-2 leads over Andrew Simon in the one set, race-to-7 final, but saw those leads evaporate into a 5-5 tie as Simon battled his way back into the match. After trading the next two games, an exciting and entertaining hill-hill battle was capped off by Sampson, as he secured his first tour event victory.
Sales were fast and furious for the 10-ball break contest. Desiree Marshall had her ticket drawn and, deciding to break for herself, calmly smashed in THREE balls on the break at $835/ball! She ended up with a long cut on the one ball but missed, still pocketing $2505 for her efforts. Afterwards, she said she had been practicing her break the day before and it certainly showed! Even with the hefty payout, the 10-ball pot will be over $600/ball when the next tour stop rolls around.
Many thanks to our title sponsor Predator for providing new sets of Arcos balls and Predator racks (we now have enough for 16 tables), as well as other new product that will be raffled or sold in the coming months to raise funds for our association.
Also thanks to Melanie, Lindsay, and the terrific staff at Doolys Port Hawkesbury for looking after us all day. And a shout out to our live-stream guru Brian McNamara, who overcame some challenges and got matches recorded. Please visit his YouTube channel (Brian's Cuesport Streams) where you can “like, subscribe and share”. He only needs a few more followers to reach his first goal.
