Some thank you’s before the day comes to an end and I take some time to process everything that took place today. 💜
There are so many people who played a part in making today what it was, and I truly believe it was the combined efforts, generosity, love, and support of everyone involved that made the day so special — and truly honoured Serena.
Craig Teal & Janet Ritcey — your dedication to making the round-robin format work, even as we expanded it to include the men’s tournament, has been an absolute reason for the success of the Showdown. The seamless running of the entire day, wrapping up by 8pm, is a testament to your effort, organization, and skill. This event simply could not happen without you both. Serena would be so proud, and I — along with every player — am incredibly grateful for everything you put into making this day happen.
Brian McNamara / Brian’s Cuesport Streams — you are truly such an amazing part of our pool community. Thank you for donating your time today and making it possible for those who couldn’t be there in person to still be part of the day. That means so much. And everyone reading this — if you haven’t already, please find Brian’s Facebook and YouTube pages and like, share, and subscribe! B deserves all the love and support!
To the tournament table helpers — Darren Reid, Dale Brimicombe, Brian Bedford, and anyone else I may have missed —Your help, often given without even being asked, made the day run smoother and gave everyone a chance to catch their breath. Every little moment of help mattered, and it was very much appreciated!
To my helper, April Doucette — where do I even begin? From supporting me throughout this past month, to everything you have done for Serena and I over the years, to your generous auction donations and all the help you gave today — I’m not sure there are enough words to express how grateful I am. You were such an amazing help and such a bright light in the hall today. Thank you for being you, for always showing up, and for being absolutely awesome.
Jen Reid & the Portland Dooly’s staff — thank you for making everyone feel at home today and for welcoming us with such warmth. I, along with all of the players, truly appreciate everything you did. You were awesome today!
Linda Burns — we missed you very much today. 🫂I hope you’re feeling better, and even though you couldn’t be there, we felt your love throughout the hall. Sending so much love right back to you.
Peter & Deb — thank you for being part of today, for supporting me always, and for supporting each other through everything. Serena would be proud, and I am beyond humbled and grateful to have you both in my corner.
And to all of the players — today simply does not happen without YOU.
Thank you for playing in the tournaments, supporting the 50/50, contributing to the silent auction, cheering each other on, and most importantly, supporting one another.
That last part means more than I can put into words. Today, you all embodied what this event was truly meant to celebrate in honour of Serena — camaraderie, friendship, community, and coming together.
When I looked around the room today, it wasn’t just the amazing games being played I noticed. It was the smiles, the conversations, the laughter, the stories, the encouragement, and all the little moments being shared between people. Those moments made the difference. That is what made today. All of you.
Every person who played, donated, helped, shared, streamed, cheered, laughed, remembered, or simply showed up contributed to something bigger than a tournament. You helped keep Serena’s spirit present.
And finally…
To Serena. Thank you for being unforgettable. Thank you for making an impact. Thank you for being genuine, kind, stubborn, hilarious, loving, and completely yourself.
Thank you for creating friendships and connections strong enough that even after you’re gone, you can still bring people together.
Looking around that room today, I realized just how much you continue to make an impact— and I hope you know how incredibly loved you are.
Today was about celebrating you, remembering you, and honouring the person you were. And I think we did exactly that. $1420 raised for The Heart and Stroke Foundation!!!
Love always, forever, and no matter what. đź’ś
