Tournament Charts:
The Amateur Provincial trifecta was on the line in Port Hawkesbury on May 13 with Dooly's hosting 2023 CSNS Amateur 10-Ball Provincials.
27 players entered the Men's event, but all eyes were on Kyle Richard. Having already captured the 2023 CSNS Amateur 8-Ball Provincial title, and also the 2023 CSNS Amateur 9-Ball Provincial title, Richard was focused on claiming 10-Ball too, to make it a clean sweep of all three titles.
Richard stayed on script early on, earning victories over Alex Forgeron 7-4, Evan Paul 7-1, Craig Teal 7-5 and Laurie MacDonald 7-5. However, in the A-Side final his mission was temporarily sidelined by Adam Cormier, with Cormier being the victor 7-6.
Cormier had come in focused as well, having been runner-up in the 2023 CSNS Provincial Open 9-Ball Championships, he was looking to go even one step further to capture the Amateur 10-Ball event. Cormier rolled through Rick Jacobs 7-0, Terrence Sylliboy 7-1, Dave Boudreau 7-1, and Neil Van Rossum 7-4, before taking the decision over Richard to reach the final undefeated.
Richard awaited an opponent on the B-Side. Ryan Kendall lost his second round match 7-4 to Neil Van Rossum, after having won his initial match over Brendan MacEachern 7-1. From the B-Side Kendall dealt losses to Leon Sylliboy 7-5, Adam Gwinn 7-0, Teal 7-5, Terrence Sylliboy 7-2, Van Rossum 7-5, and Ben Johnson 7-4. This setup a showdown with Richard for a place alongside Cormier in the final. Richard was not to be denied the opportunity, coming out on top 7-3 over Kendall.
The final match was one race to 9. It had been a long day for both players, putting strain on concentration and focus. Each player showed great determination, but it was Cormier first to the finish line at 9-6, to claim his first CSNS Provincial title. Cormier earned the right to represent Nova Scotia at the 2023 CBSA Amateur Nationals to be held later this year.
The Womens event was contested by 5 players. Brenna Sylliboy was first to book her place in the final with wins over Tara Sylliboy 6-1 and Candace Campbell 6-2.
Campbell, until recently playing out of New Brunswick but currently living in Cape Breton, would navigate her way to the final as well with wins over Georgette Morris 6-0 and Lilly Simon 6-2.
The final match went down to the final game where Campbell edged out Brenna Sylliboy to win the event 7-6. Campbell has the right to represent Nova Scotia at the CBSA Amateur Nationals being held in September.
Thanks to Doolys Port Hawkesbury for hosting. It was a late finish to complete the events in one day. Much appreciation to the staff for staying late.
CSNS is winding down for the 2022-23 season. All the traditional Provincial Championships are now complete. Look for some upcoming added Provincial events in One Pocket, 9-Ball Banks, and Straight Pool over the weekends of Jun 10, 17 and 24.
