Doolys Truro played host to the first of ten Predator tour stops planned for this season and, if the numbers at this one are any indication, it will be a record season for attendance for CSNS events. 84 players converged to kick off the year and also maybe get a chance in the 10-ball break contest, which rolled over from last season and would start at $640/ball!
Players from one end of the province to the other squared off in the double knockout event, which due to large field and the need to complete the event in one day, saw the races shortened to 4 on the A side and 3 on the B side. The field was then reduced to 32 players (16 from A side stayed in place with 16 from B side randomly drawn into those) for the final single knockout stage at races to 4 with a one-set race to 6 final.
Christopher Bright took it all the way to the house with a 6-4 victory over Colin Macdonald to claim first prize. Craig Teal and Nok Mantolino were semi-finalists, with Wekatesk Augustine, Nick Kaiser, Kyle Richard and Jody Swim rounding out the top eight.
There were two cue draws finalised on the day - Noel Frank Denny won the Predator Aspire-6 cue while Saline Penney took home a Revo shaft. Congrats to you both. New product is arriving soon and more amazing items will be raffled off in the coming weeks.
The highly anticipated 10-ball break contest saw a couple splitters get their ticket drawn - Colin MacDonald and Nok Mantolino were the lucky winners and opted for Colin to break. There were no balls made, however, and a collective groan from the large crowd soon turned into a buzz when realizing that the pot at the next event would be well over $700/ball!
Many thanks are due when these events are put on, starting with Tracey Goodyear, Sunshine Bernard and the awesome staff at Doolys Truro - you made the day easy for us!
To Brian McNamara for his live-streaming services, always a pleasure to have you help spread the word and get the game outside the venue.
To Craig Teal who, although no longer on the board of directors, still stepped in for a bit when others were playing and patiently answered questions from the new treasurer, all the while showing his true potential in making the final four in the event. Looking forward to the next one at Doolys Portland in a couple weeks - see ya there!
