Chris Simon Navigates B-Side On Route to 2024 CSNS Amateur 8-Ball Provincials

Tournament Chart:

Port Hawkesbury played host to the Provincial Amateur 8-Ball championships this weekend and solid field of 47 players kept the club hopping for the two day event. More than just titles and bragging rights were on the line as the winner would also qualify for the Amateur nationals later this year.

The men's division saw eight players return for day two but the final four would be an all-Cape Breton affair. Evan Paul survived a late push by his opponent Mike Basque to claim a 5-4 win for the hot seat. Meanwhile, Chris Simon had lost his second match then rattled off seven consecutive victories to get to the final four. Making it nine straight with wins over 4th place finisher Wekatesk Augustine and eventual semi-finalist Basque, Simon seemed on a mission and a one-set race to 7 final against Paul would test the mettle of both players. The penultimate match saw Simon push out to an early 4-0 lead then trade the remaining games before closing out the match with a 7-4 score line. Ten wins in a row while facing elimination is no easy feat!

Many thanks are due to Melanie and staff for hosting our event and especially to Craig Teal, who works tirelessly before, during and after our tournaments to ensure they are run as smoothly as possible, even while himself playing in the events. There is much effort that goes into his pre-tournament preparation, on site running, then post event wrap up and archival work on the CSNS web site that we should all be deeply appreciative of. Our collective hats are off to you, sir!
