Magoo Stevens completed the CSNS Provincial trifecta by capturing the 2022 Open 9-Ball Provincials in New Glasgow on November 27. The two day event was held at Century Snooker Club and The Rack Bar and Billiards. 40 players were on hand to compete.
Magoo added the Open 9-Ball title to the Open 10-Ball title he won earlier this year. He is also the current holder of the Open 8-Ball Provincials, which was last contested in 2019. It is a rare feat for someone to win each of the three titles at any time, much less hold them all at the same time.
Magoo won his first match over Leon Denny, before being defeated by Evan Paul in his second match. From there, Magoo had wins over Billy Martin, Christian Coffey, Bill MacPherson, Wayne Thibodeau, and Ryan Kendall to reach day 2. A power outage hampered the start to day 2, but when play resumed, the wins continued over John Baker, Greg Wilson (w/o), and Bruce Lilly to reach the final against Kyle Richard.
Kyle Richard, coming into this event as the hottest player in Nova Scotia, had already scored victories over Michael Nicksy, Brendan MacEachern, Craig Teal, Ryan Kendall, Keir Sylliboy, and Bruce Lilly.
The finals was one race to 11, with Magoo jumping out to the early lead, which he was able to maintain to the end, winning 11-5. Magoo earns entry into the 2023 CBSA Open 9-Ball Nationals at a yet to be determined date and location.
Bruce Lilly, also a consistent finisher on the podium of CSNS events this season, finished 3rd. Lilly stayed undefeated to the A-side final with wins over Paul Benoit, Herb Watters, Guy Tremblay, Tony Siddall and John Baker, before being demoted by Richard, and eliminated by Magoo.
Greg Wilson took home 4th place, followed by Keir Sylliboy and John Baker in 5th-6th place. 7th-8th place went to Ryan Kendall and Tony Siddall. 9th-12th finish was earned by Adam MacRae Evan Paul, Wayne Thibodeau and Jim Van Rossum.
