The provincial Open 9-Ball championships were contested this past weekend at Dooly's Truro with 59 men looking to claim the title and national spot.

Colin MacDonald was looking to add to his 2009 title and, after surviving a 9-7 first round win over Shawn Fequet, was never really in jeopardy on his way to the hot seat, securing that spot with a 9-5 finish over perennial contender Jody Swim. His challenger in the penultimate match would be another former title holder, although his road to the final would be tougher and much longer. 2022 champion Clayton “Magoo” Dennis succumbed to Wayne Nagel 9-7 in his first match but then steamrolled his way to the final, winning and impressive ten matches in a row over the likes of Brian White, Hugh MacEachern, Bill MacPherson (in a thrilling hill-hill affair!), Wayne Warner and eventually Swim, to book his seat in the final. At the end of a long two days of play, the players opted to play a short race to five and Magoo jumped out to a 4-2 lead but MacDonald would not be denied as he worked his way back into the match and secured the title with a 5-4 victory.

Thanks to the management and staff at Dooly's Truro for hosting our event this year; to Brian McNamara and Brian's Cuesport Streams for a great weekend of coverage; and to the many tournament officials who made time to ensure the event ran efficiently throughout the weekend.
