Tournament Bracket:

The heavy rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the 10 women who converged on Dooly’s Port Hawkesbury this past weekend to play for the Provincial Women's Open 8-Ball Championships and a spot to the 2026 nationals. A new name on the trophy would be the order of the day.

It was Desiree Marshall who dominated the day. Never in trouble in any of her matches (her closest match was her first one which she won 5-3 over Lindsay Ahearn), she ousted Ashley Denny 5-2 in the A side final. Denny then whitewashed Nia Joe 4-0 to get back to the final but there was no denying Marshall, who stamped her authority on the event with an emphatic 7-2 win to claim the title and national spot. Surprisingly, though a perennial favorite at any women’s event she enters, this is the first major provincial win for Marshall, adding to her collection of two women’s Maritime 8-ball titles.

Women’s payouts:

1st $165 + national spot – Desiree Marshall

2nd $110 – Ashley Denny

3rd $85 – Nia Joe

Many thanks to Melanie Perks, Lindsay and the rest of the staff at Dooly’s Port Hawkesbury for hosting the event, and to the many hands of the tournament committee who kept the two days running smoothly as always.
