Tournament Chart:
Despite having so much recent success, a Provincial title was an accomplishment that had eluded Kyle Richard - until now. Richard downed Jeremy Basque 9-3 in the final to capture the 2022 CSNS Open 8-Provincial Championship, earning his first Provincial Trophy.
Arguably, on paper, the toughest test for Richard may have come in his first opponent in two time defending Open 8-Ball provincial champion Magoo Stevens. Coming off a win over Richard two weeks ago in the final of 2022 Open 9-Ball Championships, Magoo would be the odds makers slight favorite. Richard would debunk that thinking, with authority, dispatching Magoo 7-1. Richard would carry on to the A-Side final, downing Peter Doucette 7-1, Andrew Simon 7-3 and Ryan Kendall 7-3.
Meanwhile Jeremy Basque was convincingly advancing on the lower half of the winners draw. beating Andrew Lafford 7-2, Leon Sylliboy 7-3, Adam MacRae 7-3, Buddy Young 7-3, and surviving a tester against Carl Sampson 7-6.
The A-side final would, of course, not be their last meeting of the day, but this match was also hill-hill, with Basque getting the better of Richard 7-6. Richard went to the B-side to thwart off Sampson 5-4, to get a second crack at Basque in the Championship final, and took full advantage of the opportunity, leaving no doubt who the 2022 Champion was.
Carl Sampson took home 3rd place honors, followed by Richard "Buddy" Young in 4th. 5th-6th place finsihers were Ryan Kendall and Peter Kabatay. 7th-8th place finishes were held down by Wekatesk Augustine and Andrew Simon. Peter Doucette, Andrew Lafford, Bruce Lilly and Robert Young placed 9th-12th in the field of 38 players.
Kyle Richard will represent Nova Scotia at the 2023 CBSA Open 8-Ball Nationals.
Prior to the first matches, the 10-Ball Break & Run contest ticket winner from the last event, Giselle Stevens, had Magoo attempt the break and run on her behalf. There had not been enough time to do the break in New Glasgow. Magoo made 3 balls on the break, and ran two additional balls at $27 per ball, to win a total of $135. Tickets were sold on the day for another attempt, this time Angela Kilbride and Ryan Kendall had their ticket drawn. Kendall made a ball on the break for $26, but failed to pocket a tough 1-ball to continue the run.
