Rick Leon has successfully defended his Maritime Open snooker title with an emphatic 5-0 win over Wayne Warner at Century Snooker Club in New Glasgow. Leon dropped only two frames in the whole event, those while relegating Joe Bowman to a semi-final finish. Warner's path was much tougher as he eked out 4-3 wins over Greg Wilson in the quarter-finals and Billy Martin in the other semi-final. Bowman hasn't played much in the last few years but did manage to nab the tournament high run with a break of 68 in his quarter-final match against Brian White. The event was truly a Maritime affair as players from NS, NB and PEI vied for the title. Leon had already qualified for the nationals by virtue of his Maritime Closed victory last fall, so the spot to the nationals for this event will now fall to Warner. The CBSA snooker nationals will be held later this year at a date and venue yet to be confirmed. Thanks once again to Bill and Tammy and staff at Century for their hospitality in hosting the event. It's great to see snooker still alive and well in the Maritimes.
