Cue Sports Nova Scotia’s season for Open class events culminated on April 22 & 23 with the annual Open 9-Ball Provincial Championships, generally regarded as the crown jewel of CSNS events. 17 ladies participated in the Women’s division. The event was held at Doolys Portland in Dartmouth.
The Women’s Championship came down to two former champions, Leigh Ann Giles with three previous 9-Ball Provincial crowns in her possession, and Janet Ritcey with two Nova Scotia 9-Ball titles to her credit. Ritcey reached the final undefeated, with match victories over Lindsay Ahearn, Gillian Letzer, Lynne Palmer, and Angela Kilbride. Giles downed Saline Penney and Desiree Marshall before being upset by Kilbride. Giles resumed her quest on the B-Side eclipsing Tracey Goodyear, defeating Marshall for a second time, and then extracting revenge on Kilbride, to reach the final.
The championship match was initially all in favor of Ritcey, jumping to a 5-0 lead in a race to 9. Giles stormed back to tie the set at 5-all. From there Ritcey pulled away to secure the final 9-5 for her third Provincial title in 9-Ball. Angie Kilbride was 3rd, followed by Desiree Marshall in 4th.
Janet Ritcey earned the right to represent Nova Scotia at the CBSA Open 9-Ball Nationals to be held later this year.
Ashley Denny won a women’s only second chance, beating Lindsay Ahearn to take the honors.
