Saturday, April 06, 2024 was just an amazing day, not only for being my first event of 2024, but starting the year with my first Women's Gunn Show 8-Ball Tournament. During my setup Dale arrived and told me he had something for me, to my surprise he presented two beautiful trophies for 1st and 2nd place, this was such an amazing gesture from a person, like me, cares enough to make events even more special, and is appreciated so much.
30 amazing ladies came out to compete for number one spot, and certainly did not disappoint, Brian's Cuesport Streams made sure you did not miss these amazing battles through the day/and next. I got to meet so many new faces, and for some it was their first Women's tournament, and I am honored to have been a part of their first experience.
During the day it was actually hard to watch just one game, and like others found myself trying to watch multiple at the same time lol. The ladies put on quite the show and the competition was amazing to watch. Tracey G. needs a mention in this post for an amazing long 3 rail kick on the eight ball to win the match, this was even more amazing as it was on the Stream Table and can be seen by all.....amazing shooting Tracey and that is the shot of the Event :)
The 2 gas cards I donated for the draw were won by Ashley T. and Audry O. The fundraising went fantastic, some gave part of their winnings back to The Canadian Cancer Society and The Dooly's Breakfast Program, the first 50/50 was won by one of the people on the machines, the other was won by Dale B. and I, half was donated back to the Charities. The total amount raised was $365.00 ($182.50 to each of the causes). I saw on Sunday that an anonymous donation of $50.00 was made to Mom's up-coming Event in June and thank you to whoever that was :)
As the competition continued through the day we ran out of time coming up to the 4th place matches, and it was agreed by the remaining players to resume play on Sunday morning. The last match for 4th place was played by Kathy B. and Liz Y., Neither one was going to give it up without a fight and Kathy B. ended up defeating Liz Y. at the end of day one.
Sunday morning found 3 strong competitors "Janet R., Paris S., and Kathy B." coming in to battle for the top spot Trophy and Payout. Many players who came back and visitors to Dooly's were all crowding around to watch these players battle it out and see who would come out on top. Paris and Kathy both made it very far on the A side before being knocked onto the B side to fight their way back, and they certainly did that. Kathy B. was up against Paris S. first on a race to 4, after some truly amazing playing Paris came out on top and Kathy had to settle for 3rd place. The final race to 7 had Paris S. going up against Janet R. for the final battle, both players shots were just amazing and the scores were very close, but in the end Paris S. was able to defeat Janet R. 7-4 in the end, the final 3 was certainly a nail-biter and the players should be proud of how far they made it out of a 30 player field.
I would like to thank my Gunn Show Team of Dale B. and Brian M. for the amazing work they do, and the amazing events we as a team put on, so very proud to have these guys as friend's....means the world to me. Ashley T. who is the manager of Dooly's Rockingham and her staff are just amazing with how they look after me and all of the players, and providing the great venue.....Thank you all.
Finally, thank you to all of the players who came out to support this first of many great Events to come. You can compete with the best of them and know how to have fun, all of this made it such a memorable day for us all.....you should all be proud of yourselves for making this sport even better and keep growing. :) :)
