Predator CSNS ranking event 7 (8-Ball) was held recently at Doolys Truro with a large and strong field of 76 contestants playing a double knockout format down to a 32-player, single knockout redraw.

The final four saw one familiar face and several new ones emerge. Bafex Teemane, a man who is never without a smile and one of the most likeable characters in the local pool scene, has been playing some inspired pool of late, even taking down recent Metro Pool League 2-point champion Colin Macdonald to reach the final four before bowing out to Bruce Lilly in the semi-finals. Jody Swim, who has been knocking on the door recently, managed a comeback win over perennial favorite Kyle Richard in the final 16, then brushed aside local talent Kristin Mattatall before himself being relegated to semi-finalist by Wayne Nagel.

The final was meant to see Lilly taking on relative newcomer and Alberta-transplant Nagel in a race-to-7, however, the late hour dictated a chop and one game for the win, which Nagel ran out with the same surgical precision he had shown in his previous matches.

Regardless of who won the final or how, this marked the seventh different winner of the seven tour events held so far this season, a testament to how difficult the fields are in Nova Scotia pool circles.

Ticket sales for the always popular 10-ball break contest pushed the total to $715/ball. Saline Penney had her name drawn and instead of asking husband Chris, who is better known for his soft break, opted for Jody Swim to do her the honors. Jody had a massive break, making the 3-ball ball and getting a reasonable shot on the 1-ball. He made the one to the delight of the crowd, and posted perfect on the 2. After making the 2 and 4, he was faced with a delicate long shot where the 5 was buried deep in a corner pocket seven feet away. Making the 5 was the easy part, trying to avoid a scratch and draw out of there to get a good shot at the 6 quite another. Jody managed to do just that but ended up with a long shot bridging over the 7-ball to try and make the 6, which was down table and just off the rail. He hit it soft to give it a chance and it looked like a good stroke but the pool gods would only allow the 6 to settle in the jaws and not drop, so $3575 was the winning amount for running half a rack of 10-ball!

Ticket sales on the latest cue raffle package were also completed on the day and Eric Boudreau was the lucky winner of a Predator P3 gold cue and Revo shaft with a retail value over $2200!

Many thanks to our title sponsor Predator for supplying Arcos balls and racks for the event; to Tracey Goodyear, Curtis and the staff at Doolys Truro for hosting our event; to Brian McNamara for his always popular live-stream services; and to the many hands of the tournament committee who kept things running smoothly throughout the day.
